How to use Custom Fields to collect and manage user information?

Custom Fields let you collect and manage additional information about your users. User shares one value for each field, and the information collected is available wherever that field is used.

What are Custom Fields and how do they work?

Go to Settings > Custom Fields to view the complete list of fields available. This list includes built-in fields that come with your account and custom fields that you can add.

Note that the Built-in fields cannot be deleted and do not count towards the custom fields included in your plan. These include:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Password
  • Mobile number
  • Headline
  • Short Profile
  • Education
  • Role
  • Company
  • City
  • State
  • Country
  • Website URL
  • LinkedIn URL
  • X (Twitter) URL
  • YouTube URL
  • Instagram URL
  • Facebook URL
  • Custom Link 1
  • Custom Link 2

Info
Note: Name and email are always collected. Other built-in fields can be configured and enabled when needed.

How do I configure a Custom Field?

Go to Settings > Custom Fields and click Edit for the field you want to configure. Depending on the field, you can configure:

Setting
Explanation
Field labelThe name users see for the field.
Required fieldMakes the field mandatory where it is displayed.
Display on signup and regular checkoutShows the field on the signup form and regular checkout.
Display on user profile pageShows the field on the user's profile so they can view and update their information.
Admin onlyKeeps the field hidden from users so your team can enter or manage the information.
NotesLets you add internal information about where or why the field is being used. Notes are not shown to users.

You can also reorder fields in the list using the drag-and-drop option.

InfoNote: Profile information is self-declared by the user. Selecting Display on user profile page does not make the field mandatory. If you need information to be provided during signup or checkout, use Required field for that flow. Admin only keeps the field hidden from users as a hidden field.

Where can I use Custom Fields?

Depending on how you configure a field, it can be used in the following locations:

Location
How Custom Fields work
Signup FormDisplay fields when users create their account.
Regular CheckoutDisplay fields during the regular checkout process.
Enhanced Checkout
Select the fields you want to display separately for each course or bundle.
User ProfileAllow users to view and update information from their profile.

Info
Note: Configuring a field in the custom fields does not automatically add it to every course or bundle. Only the fields selected for that course or bundle will appear on its Enhanced Checkout. For more details, see the Enhanced Checkout guide.
